**Make the Custard:** In a saucepan, whisk together milk, custard powder, sugar, and gelatine. Bring the mixture to a boil, whisking constantly. Once boiling, continue whisking for 1 minute, then remove from heat.
**Prep the Buns:** Slice your hot cross buns in half horizontally. Arrange the bottom halves in a baking dish with sides, making sure they are snug and touching.
**Assemble:** Pour the custard over the bottom halves, spreading it evenly. Gently place the top halves of the buns on the custard layer.
**Chill:** Pop the assembled buns in the fridge to cool and set. About 2 hours should do the trick!
**Serve:** Once cooled, slice your buns into individual servings and enjoy!
These vanilla slice hot cross buns are a delightful twist on traditional hot cross buns, combining the creamy goodness of custard with the spiced sweetness of the buns. Perfect for Easter, brunch, or as a special treat!
